Residents attend the Social Entitlement Camp in Domasar

An entitlement camp in Domasar helped residents obtain documents for government support. For Kiran Hansda and her daughter Manisha, an Ayushman card later became an important link to hospital care during a difficult period.

Bringing information to a remote village

Domasar is surrounded by forest and hills, around 15 kilometres from the Tisri block headquarters. The case study describes about 40 households and a five-kilometre journey along unpaved roads and footpaths to reach the main road.

Distance, limited educational facilities and uncertain livelihoods made government services difficult to access. Under the Community Empowerment Project-2, SPS shared information about available schemes and helped residents understand how to apply.

On 26 March 2022, SPS organised a Social Entitlement Camp in the village. Residents received assistance with e-Shram and Ayushman cards and information about using them.

Support when a child became ill

In April 2022, Kiran's daughter Manisha, then a 13-year-old Class 7 student, became ill. Kiran was supporting a household of five and had recently spent much of her available money on household needs and her children's education.

Initial consultations did not resolve Manisha's illness. Kiran then spoke with local volunteer Priska Tudu, who encouraged her to seek care at a hospital where the Ayushman card could be used.

From a document to access to care

With the necessary documents, Kiran admitted Manisha to Patlavati Hospital near the block headquarters. According to the family's account, tests identified malaria and typhoid. Manisha received treatment over two days without charges to the family and was later able to return to school.

Kiran reported that the support saved the family about ₹8,000. She also described feeling more confident about seeking care in future, and thanked the organisation and its workers for helping her obtain and use the card.

This account records one family's experience in 2022. Eligibility and coverage under health schemes depend on the applicable rules and hospital arrangements; the story is not a promise of coverage for every treatment.
