Residents of Malukchal in Belwana Gram Panchayat, Tisri block, took part in a Participatory Rural Appraisal under the Community Empowerment Project. The exercise invited villagers to identify their own needs and challenges.
The village has 55 households relying on a mix of mica picking, agriculture, livestock and daily-wage work, according to the SPS update. With support from the Responsible Mica Initiative, SPS is using the same community-led approach across seven other mica-dependent villages. The appraisal is a starting point for planning with residents.
