SPS marked World Environment Day in Futka village, Deori, with a tree-planting and environmental awareness programme under the Protecting Rights of Children in Mining Sector (PRCMS) project, supported by Terre des Hommes Germany. Around 200 people from 20 project villages took part, including youth groups, Bal Manch members, residents and local representatives.
Participants planted trees and pledged to expand planting across the project area. Panchayat representatives encouraged residents to plant one or two trees each year and spoke of a goal to plant 2,000 saplings over the next three years with children’s participation.
Children and young people also joined a maths race, spoon race, balloon race and painting competition. Winners were recognised before the gathering closed with a collective pledge to protect the environment.
